Recent Events

Summer 2011

Over the past few months Katherine’s work has seen her travel throughout the United Kingdom and performing various styles of music. July began with an evening of musicals at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod (starring West-End star Ruthie Henshall) before appearing at the Last Night of the Welsh Proms, Cardiff (conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes). On a smaller scale, a memorable evening was held at Booths Bookshop, Hay-on-Wye with violinist Laurence Kempton. Performing music by Handel, Corelli, Elgar and John Williams, the bookshop proved to be a very inspiring and intimate performance space. Always a popular time for weddings and celebrations, Katherine has been busy travelling to some truly beautiful surroundings including St John’s College (Oxford), Clearwell Castle (Forest of Dean) and the Royal Crescent Hotel (Bath).

May & June 2011

June saw the final performances of Puccini’s Turandot with WNO. With cast members including Gwyn Hughes Jones, Rebecca Evans and an augmented chorus of 60, it was a true feast for the eyes and ears. Along with the orchestra of Welsh National Opera – and under the baton of Lawrence Foster, a busy week was had during the finals of the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. With performances of Debussy and Mozart’s harp concerti it was certainly a time for practise, but Katherine was also delighted to be invited to play the winning composition for this years Urdd Eisteddfod. Composed by Mared Emlyn, the work is a suite for harp entitled Perlau yn y Glaw; a suite in five movements that should undoubtedly become part of the standard harp repertoire.

Spring 2011

A busy period with Welsh National Opera began with the final rehearsals for Strauss’  Die Fledermaus and Il Trovatore (Verdi). During this time, Katherine also played at The Bell, Glangrwyney for Valentine’s Day, and gave a special concert in Govilon for the Gardening Club; full of references to plants and flowers, it was a very enjoyable evening.
